The rule is that Scripture trumps tradition. Even if that tradition is from the church and existing for millennia.

Origiinal sin proponents will take verses out of context to support their view. For example, they will use Psalm 58:3 as alleged support, which says, “The wicked are estranged from the womb; These who speak lies go astray from birth.” But when the verse is taken in context, one can rightly see that the chapter is hyperbolic poetry. The chapter goes on to say babies have venom, fangs,and their ears are deaf like a cobra. Then the Pslamist calls for God to break their fangs, make them flow away like water, let them melt away like snails, let them be like a miscarriage, and so forth. The chapter is talking about evil adults, not everyone on earth.

In today’s vernacular, this is equivalent to asking an athlete, “Are you ready?” Often the athlete will reply with, “I was born ready.” We all know that the athlete was not literally born ready, he or she is using the literary technique of hyperbolic poetry. We all understand this. But when it comes to supporting the tradition of original sin, the logical rules of grammar go out the window and this poetic chapter has the one verse taken out of context and taught as literal text. That is simply wrong and deceitful for priests and pastors to do this.
