The Power of Church Tradition

Does a millennia of the church’s powerful tradition force a belief to be true?

“There is none righteous, not even one.” This verse is taken from Psalm 14:3 and is often used as exhibit “A” to support the doctrine of original sin. The proponents contend that this verse includes babies, but does it?

Look at the proceeding verses, Psalm 14: 1-3, “The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good . . . There is no one who does good, not even one.” When taking the verse in context, the subject never changes, it startes off as the fool and remains the same fool  for this section.

When taken in context, this verse used to support the tradition of original sin is exposed as a clever cherry-picked verse out of context. The verse is telling us that of the fools who deny God, there is none righteous, not even one. This verse does not indict babies.
